Visit to the Quiet Revolution Wind Turbine Factory at Pembroke Dock

Following Vaughan Griffiths' talk to them in July 2011 members and friends of Pembrokeshire South East Energy Group have followed with interest the development of the Quiet Revolution vertical axis wind turbine. They were impressed then that they could be installed in places where a horizontal axis turbines could not operate for example on the top of buildings, in supermarket car parks, school play grounds and on the Olympic Park.

Marten Lewis of the Darwin Centre at Pembrokeshire College was able to arrange a visit for them to QR's Production Unit at Pembroke Dock. They were met on site by Antoinette Thomas and Aamir Shahzad and watched the test turbine being lowered before inspecting it more closely.

They went into the factory and after an introductory talk were shown around the factory floor. Antoinette constantly reminded them of the very high standards that were set in order first to gain approval for a new model and then at each stage of the production. The parts were assembled and each turbine rigorously tested before being shipped and installed on site the furthest in Australia.

Aamir explained how all the turbines were constantly monitored by them and any flagged problem immediately addressed. The group also saw the invertor which converted the Direct Current for the turbine to the Alternating Current required to feed into the National Grid.

At the end of the visit all felt that it had been great to see a renewable energy company creating high quality jobs here in Pembrokeshire in a sustainable and growing market.
