Not a Waste of Time

Members and friends of Pembrokeshire South East Energy Group started their Autumn programme with a visit, organised by Marten Lewis of the Darwin Centre, to the Withyhedges Landfill and Recycling Centre. It was extremely interesting and informative.

If you ever wondered what happens to the rubbish collected from your home each week, this tour is for you. Fascinating details were given of the methods used for separating out different types of waste for recycling. All were impressed by the most efficient way the pickers on the conveyor belt coped with the speed of the operation (not for the faint hearted). Fortunately less and less is now being sent to landfill it may well be zero in the next few years.

It proved a very worthwhile visit and made all present more aware of the need to reduce their own waste.

The September meeting of the Group will be held in the Conference Room at New Hedges Village Hall on Thursday 20th September 2012 at 7.00pm. Steve Hack of Seren Energy will be giving an update on the progress of PSEEG's Community Renewable Energy Project. If successful this will provide funds to reduce the carbon footprint of local communities in South East Pembrokeshire. All members of the public are very welcome to attend.

V.R.
